PolyOne Corp. has added about 70 jobs and installed new equipment at its plastic sheet plant in Greenville, Ohio, since early 2014.
The plant was acquired as part of PolyOne's purchase of Spartech Corp. in early 2013. Many of the new Greenville jobs are the result of Avon Lake, Ohio-based PolyOne closing six former Spartech plants at various U.S. locations.
In addition to the new equipment, some equipment has been transferred from some of the former Spartech plants. More jobs are expected to be added in Greenville as well, a company spokesman said in an email.
“We're making investments in facilities, equipment and people throughout our [Designed Structures & Solutions] locations,” he explained. “It's part of our integration efforts and continually improving quality and service to customers.”
PolyOne has invested $12 million on the equipment transfer and on new equipment in Greenville. The site now employs about 170. The JobsOhio state agency is providing PolyOne with a $100,000 grant to assist with job training in Greenville.
PolyOne's DSS unit — including the former Spartech — generated sales of $617.5 million in 2014, up more than three percent vs. 2013. That amount represented about 15 percent of total sales before eliminations for PolyOne in 2014.
