Plastic Package Inc. is expanding in Hawaii, acquiring Malnove Holding Co. Inc.'s plastic container and folding carton operation in suburban Honolulu.
Sacramento, Calif.-based Plastic Package expects to close the deal by the end of this month.
“This acquisition will significantly enhance our ability to serve our existing Hawaii customers as well as allow us to serve the broader Hawaii market,” said Plastic Package Chairman Jim Kaye in a statement.
The location in Kapolei, known as Creative Malnove Hawaii, measures 22,000 square feet. The site makes and sells thermoformed plastic trays and containers and paper folding cartons for the candy, supermarket and food service industries, Plastic Package said.
Plans are to expand the site to allow Plastic Package to also provide products the company makes at its mainland locations, the company said.
Plastic Package also has plants in Sacramento and La Porte, Ind.
“The acquisition is in line with our plans to be a premier supplier to candy, bakery and food service customers nationwide,” President Mike Miller in a statement.
“The association with Plastic Package will give us access to in depth expertise in thermoforming as well as the buying power of a larger organization. We will also have the possibility to expand our reach through capital expansion,” said plant Operations Manager Brett Troxel in a statement.
The new acquisition will be known as Plastic Package of Hawaii under its new owners.
