Label and flexible packaging converter Advanced Web Technologies LLC is being acquired by Mason Wells, a private equity firm.
The deal includes facilities in Minneapolis and South Elgin, Ill., where AWT serves the healthcare, food and beverage, personal care, household, specialty and industrial/original equipment manufacturers markets.
AWT converts pressure sensitive and digital labels, laminating multi-layer film structures, shrink sleeves and extended contact labels, Mason Wells said.
“With Mason Wells' strong financial backing, we plan to strategically expand our current business footprint. The entire AWT management team will remain intact,” said Jim Lundquist, CEO of AWT, in a statement.
AWT will remain what Mason Wells called “an independent manufacturer of labels and packaging” and will not be affiliated with other converting operations owned by Mason Wells.
The acquired company, Mason Wells Managing Director Jay Radtke said in a statement, has a history of producing “high quality, technically challenging labels, particularly in the healthcare segment.”
“We believe the company provides an excellent platform for growth and is well positioned to capitalize on a number of market and new product opportunities,” he said.
Mason Wells, of Milwaukee, has been investing in packaging materials and converting companies since 1998. Other firms in its portfolio, according to the company's website, include: Nelipak Corp. of Cranston, R.I., which makes thermoformed healthcare packaging; Mullinix Packages Inc. of Fort Wayne, Ind., which makes thermoformed packaging for the food industry; and Coating Excellence International LLC of Wrightstown, Wis., a flexible packaging maker.
Mason Wells also owns A&R Logistics, Inc., which provides dry bulk transportation, packaging, distribution and logistics services to the chemical and plastics industries.
