King Philippe of Belgium and China's President Xi Jinping witnessed the signing of a deal between Solvay SA and Sinochem Group last week.
The two parties signed a strategic cooperation memorandum that aims to further develop joint work in the area of fine chemicals, especially “green chemicals,” Sinochem said in a news release.
Sinochem Chairman Liu Deshu and Solvay CEO Jean-Pierre Clamadieu signed the memorandum on June 23 in Beijing.
Sinochem's publicly traded subsidiary Sinochem International Co. Ltd. signed another deal with Solvay on June 24 to specifically promote eco-friendly production techniques of epichlorohydrin (ECH), an epoxy precursor, via glycerol. The companies hope to strengthen the competitive of China's epoxy resin industry and ensure its sustainable development, Sinochem said.
More collaboration on technical and intellectual property fronts, as well as consideration of an ECH production project, will follow, according to the companies.
