UPDATED — Finland's Huhtamäki Oyj said July 2 that it bought Pure-Stat Technologies Inc., a small U.S. manufacturer of laminate used in its molded fiber packaging, for 6 million euros ($6.6 million).
Lewiston, Maine-based Pure-Stat makes cast film made of crystal PET (CPET) that Huhtamäki uses on molded fiber packaging for baked goods, so the containers can be put in an oven.
The deal does not include a former related company, Purestat Engineered Technologies Inc. of Lewiston, which makes blown film used in electrostatic discharge packaging and a range of plastics films.
Espoo, Finland-based Huhtamäki said Pure-Stat, which employs 12 in its manufacturing unit, became part of its North American business unit July 1. Publicly traded Huhtamäki has 69 manufacturing units worldwide and employs 16,000.
