TORRINGTON, CONN. — Wittmann Battenfeld GmbH will invest more than $1 million at its U.S. plant in Torrington as part of its global push to expand production of Wittmann robots.
Wittmann Battenfeld Inc. in Connecticut will get a large machining center and paint booth for the robot operations.
It's part of a multi-country robot expansion for the Austrian company. That gives the company capacity to produce 4,200 total robots a year.
The second stage includes the expansion of robot production at the Vienna headquarters, where production should begin in January 2016, and in Torrington, where the expansion should launch by the end of 2016.
After the second stage is completed, Wittmann Battenfeld will be able to manufacture 4,500 robots a year.
