On the heels of the latest historic flight from the Solar Impulse team, there's bad news out of Hawaii: The plane has been grounded until at least April 2016 because of battery problems.
We have been following the flight on Plastics News Now (many plastics companies have partnered in the endeavor, helping to make the plane as light as possible). The team is attempting to completely fly around the world on only solar power.
The damage occurred during its nearly five day and five night flight from Japan to Hawaii. Officials said the batteries overheated, and irreversible damage was done to them, the team said.
Check out the video below from the team, describing the problem.
