Global compounder RTP Co. has acquired Polymer Partners LLC, a specialist in black compounds and masterbatches in Henderson, Ky.
RTP said Aug. 6 that Polymer Partners will provide additional thermoplastic compounding capacity as well as a stronger geographic presence in the eastern United States. RTP's other North American compounding sites are in Winona, Minn., where it is headquartered, Sauk Rapids, Minn.; Fort Worth, Texas; Indianapolis; Dupo, Ill.; South Boston, Va.; and Monterrey, Mexico.
RTP President and CEO Hugh Miller noted in a news release that the purchase helps his company provide a wider range of compounding solutions and it will expand Polymer Partner's product range through RTP's offerings.
“We are excited to have such a talented and highly capable team in Henderson, Ky.” Miller stated. The company employs about 35.
RTP did not disclose terms of the purchase from the former owner, a private equity firm.
Polymer Partners uses several types of black pigments, including carbon blacks, graphite, bone blacks and nigrosine, a mixture of synthetic blacks based on oxidized aniline and other chemicals. Its compounds can have conductive, UV-resistance and high color properties, as well as clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. It compounds conventional and super-conductive blacks with a wide range of carrier resins encompassing commodity types and engineering resins.
Polymer Partners sells materials in North and South America for applications in wire and cable, pipe, sheet, film and other products. Its markets include automotive, medical, cosmetics, electronics and other industrial sectors.
RTP's offshore compounding facilities are in France, Germany, Singapore and China.
