Freudenberg & Co. KG is delving deeper into the medical molding world with a new brand for its Helix Medical and MedVenture businesses.
The combined brand, now known as Freudenberg Medical, emphasizes the group-wide commitment to global development and partnering with medical device OEMs and the pharmaceutical industry, according to a company release announcing the Aug. 10 change.
“Since we selected Helix Medical as our company name, our enterprise has grown exponentially, both organically and through acquisitions, and we have significantly broadened our capabilities,” Jorg Schneewind, president and CEO of Freudenberg Medical, said in the release. “Our new brand, Freudenberg Medical, underlines our commitment to be the preferred global development and innovation partner for medical device and pharmaceutical customers.”
The change comes in part as the entire Freudenberg Group undergoes a global rebranding this quarter.
Weinheim, Germany-based Freudenberg Group first dipped a toe into medical device manufacturing with the acquisition of Helix in 2006. The company stuck with the Helix brand, which was established in 1984 and already a well known source for silicone and thermoplastic molding and extrusion, specializing in complex catheter systems from design and development to packaging.
MedVenture was acquired by Helix under the Freudenberg umbrella in 2012. MedVenture specializes in the development and manufacture of minimally invasive systems and catheters.
Freudenberg Medical also holds a 50 percent share of two joint venture companies, catheter and catheter component maker VistaMed and Cambus Medical, a manufacturer of metal hypotubes for catheter systems. Across the entire brand, Freudenberg Medical has 10 FDA-approved production sites, all with cleanroom space, in the United States, Costa Rica, Germany, Ireland and China.
