An online retailer of housewares is throwing its support behind a professional soccer team by agreeing to be its shirt sponsor for the next three years.
English team Accrington Stanley Football Club will wear shirts with the Plastic Box Shop Ltd.'s logo for the next three years, while one of the company's key partners, What More UK Ltd., has taken over as the stadium sponsor. So the team's home turf is now renamed Wham Stadium.
“I've always had a soft spot for Accrington Stanley, ever since seeing the famous milk advert on TV when I was a kid, especially as my dad came from Liverpool,” said Plastic Box Shop Managing Director Gary Lyons.
"It's a historic and iconic club and when the opportunity came up for Plastic Box Shop to be the shirt sponsor I leapt at it. In supporting Accrington Stanley we feel that we have found a club that has come from humble beginnings like ourselves, but has ambitions to keep on growing and we plan to treble in size. Over the next three years our ambition is to make Plastic Box Shop one of the U.K.'s best known brands."
Peter Marsden, chairman of Accrington Stanley, said: "These two sponsorship deals with Plastic Box Shop and Wham are great news for everyone involved with the club, from the players and officials to the fans.
"They put us on a stronger footing going forward and allow us to focus on giving our best performance on the pitch, knowing we have some top flight sponsors backing us. With the new season about to start this weekend, we aim to do them proud.”
Plastic Box Shop is based in Northallerton, England.
