Charles Ross & Son Co. reports its vertical blenders/dryers are idea for vacuum drying a range of materials in either solid or liquid state, including powders, granules, pellets, fibers, pastes and slurries.
This type of equipment uses a slow-turning auger screw to gently lift batch materials upward as it orbits around a conical vessel. Materials are carried to the top of the batch, then cascade slowly back down into the regions opposite the moving auger screw. The constant exchange of materials between the heated sidewall and the center of the blender accelerates the drying process, according to the company in Hauppauge, N.Y.
The vertical blender/dryer also minimizes the risk of product attrition and the generation of fines, because of its thorough, but very low-impact blending action. During the drying cycle, hot water, oil or steam is recirculated through the vessel jacket. Due to lower processing temperatures because of the vacuum environment, there is a reduced risk of creating hot spots on the vessel walls, where the material could bake.
The dryer is available in many sizes, from one through 500 cubic feet.
