Editor's note: This letter was written to Peter Nowell, who wrote a Mailbag letter “Let's talk recycled bags.”
Dear Mr. Nowell,
Thank you for your letter in yesterday's Plastics News regarding our WRAP initiative and your support for our program. We believe this program has enormous potential.
Through WRAP the plastics industry is working to achieve unprecedented growth in the recycling of polyethylene film: our goal is to double film recycling to 2 billion pounds by 2020. WRAP was created with the strong backing of the plastics resin suppliers of ACC that formed the Flexible Film Recycling Group, which is spearheading this program along with companies representing the broader PE film value chain. Please use the following link to view our members: http://plastics.americanchemistry.com/FFRG.
Our focus for 2016 will be to greatly expand WRAP nationally by engaging additional stakeholders such as governments, retailers, the waste management community, and other plastic trade groups in using our communications tools and best practices to increase public awareness and involvement in broader recycling of film packaging.
We urge Plastics News readers to learn more about efforts to recycle plastic film in your communities or, if needed, how to start a program (see: http://www.plasticfilmrecycling.org/). Together we can make a difference in growing film recycling!
