Itasca, Ill. — In a factory setting, caps and preforms fly past so fast they become a blur. But high-speed optical equipment can keep pace — and blow off bad parts with a precise jet of air.
Equipment from Intravis GmbH keeps the watch. Gustavo Basto, sales manager for Latin America at Intravis' North American operation in Norcross, Ga., outlined the company's offerings at the Plastics Caps & Closures Conference.
The CapWatcher III can inspect 70 caps a second — or 252,000 per hour — for a variety of flaws such as pinhole leaks, and link the problem to a specific mold cavity.
At NPE 2015, Intravis rolled out the PreWatcher, which can check 72,000 PET performs an hour.
“We strictly focus on plastic packaging,” Basto said.
