Film industry veteran John Powers has been promoted to president and chief operating officer of AEP Industries Inc.
Powers previously had served as executive vice president of sales and marketing for Montvale, N.J.-based AEP. He's been with the firm since 1989.
COO is a newly created position at AEP. In addition to that role, Powers will continue to oversee the firm's sales and marketing functions and report to CEO and Chairman Brendan Barba, according to a Nov. 5 news release.
“Throughout his tenure at AEP…John has repeatedly proven that he is a high-caliber leader and an important contributor to the company's success,” Barba said in the release.
Powers added in the release that he “looks forward to working collaboratively with the executive management team to continue to create value for [AEP's] shareholders moving forward.”
AEP ranks as North America's sixth-largest film and sheet maker, according to a recent Plastics News ranking. The publicly held firm posted sales of almost $1.2 billion in its 2014 fiscal year.
AEP employs 2,500 at 12 plants. The 45-year-old firm makes a wide variety of custom polyethylene films and related products for various markets including consumer, industrial and agricultural.
