German film producer RKW Group is offering advanced silage film to North American markets, where it promises easy installation and high barrier protection.
Polydress 0² Barrier 2in1 combines a polyethylene silage film with a nylon film underlay to give up to ten times higher oxygen barrier compared with conventional films in silage-type applications. The barrier properties provide less silage loss due to fermentation and prevent mildew growth. The combination preserves the quality of feedstuff made from green forage crops that is then fed to ruminants such as cows.
RKW claims its Polydress system is stable, expandable, tear-resistant, and uses 60 percent less raw materials compared with traditional silage coverings. It is easy to spread on the silo because it attaches to the silage while it is being covered and the underlay film detaches independently from the silage film after a few days. Its use thus saves time and its low weight makes handling easy.
RKW, based in Frankenthal, Germany, says its Polydress product won awards in February 2015 at the World Ag Expo held annually in Tulare, Calif., about three years after RKW introduced the film in Europe.
