A maker of stainless steel water bottles has come up with an advertising campaign that portrays single-use plastic bottles as a fading trend. It's a parody ad, for a fake water brand called "Once."
The ad shows young people drinking water from PET bottles, then casually tossing the bottles aside. Bottles fill shopping carts, cars — one person is even drinking water while swimming, and another is hitting bottles with a golf club into a scenic valley.
The video ends with the message: "Time to end single-use plastics," and uses the hashtag #endthetrend. The advertisements are getting a fair bit of attention in social media circles, and they've been highlighted by Advertising Age and OneGreenPlanet.org.
The company behind the campaign is Seventh Generation Ventures Inc., which makes Bobble-brand reusable bottles.
I enjoyed the parody, it's a pretty entertaining idea, although it reminds me a little too much of something "Saturday Night Live" would do, instead of a real advertiser.
