Kolkata — Plastiblends India Ltd. plans a fourth masterbatch facility in the country, to serve growing demand in the eastern part of India.
The new facility, near Kolkata, would have capacity of 66 million pounds annually, including 22 million pounds of masterbatch and 44 million pounds of fillers.
It's part of a significant expansion for the firm, which is opening another masterbatch facility, its third, in April in the western state of Gujarat, in the city of Surat.
The Kolkata factory would likely become operational in late 2016, said Ramesh Dumbre, vice president of marketing, in an interview at the Indplas 2015 show, held Nov. 27-Nov. 30 in Kolkata.
“We have identified a plant location at Jangalpur around 15 kilometers from Kolkata,” he said. “The land has been acquired and the boundary wall has been erected.”
“The project is taking slightly more time as it takes a bit longer to acquire land and [obtain] required clearances for the plant,” he said.
Dumbre said growing investment in resin capacity in eastern India will serve to boost demand in that part of the country.
