Environmental Recycling Technologies (ERT), has granted an exclusive license to a Kentucky molder to use its powder impression molding (PIM) process to use mixed waste plastics in industrial structural products for some key customers in the U.S.
James Marine Inc.'s Brownwater Plastics of Paducah, Ky., already had won business in 2014 to create barge covers for use in the U.S. market using ERT's PIM process. The new license agreement covers the manufacture and sale by James Group companies of "rigid industrial matting and load bearing substrates for the industrial sector and for products for the railroad industry" in the U.S.
Under the terms of the license, James Plastics will pay an annual royalty to ERT, paid half-yearly, based on product sold.
James Plastics has already invested in product research and development and has an order book for production, with the first royalties paid to ERT in the first half of 2016.
ERT chairman Michael Rowan, said: “This is a welcome step in the development of our relationship with James Plastics' parent company, James Marine, which has been a PIM licensee since August 2012.
“It has been actively developing new applications for our proven PIM technology, which can convert mixed waste plastics into commercial product and we are delighted that new PIM products will very soon be coming to market.”
