Henderson, Nevada — NPE2018 is still two years away, but word from the show's organizer is that there's a big change coming for those interested in plastic beverage bottles.
The Society of the Plastics Industry Inc., the trade group that owns and runs the triennial extravaganza, is developing the Bottle Zone to spotlight the beverage bottling and PET market.
Brad Williams, SPI's marketing vice president who unveiled the zone recently at the Packaging Conference in Henderson, calls it a one-stop shop for all things bottling.
“We want to shine the light a little bit wider on bottling. And this is how we do it,” he said about the more than 100,000 square feet expected to be dedicated to the new zone.
Creating the zone will allow beverage bottle related exhibitors to unite in one location instead of being located throughout the massive show's exhibit space.
Creating the Bottle Zone follows earlier initiatives to spotlight other aspects of the plastics industry in their own dedicated space. NPE 2015, for example, featured a recycling zone for the first time.
“This is going to be the biggest initiative we do on the exhibit floor,” Williams said. “We're estimating over 100 companies will be involved.”
The zone, he said, will be prominently featured near one of the exhibit hall's major entrances.
Along with exhibits, the new zone also will have an educational program featured within the space.
“What the zone does is allows us to collectively feature the solutions, the products, the services within bottling,” Williams said. “It allows us to tell the story.”
