OnePlastics Group is investing $9 million to expand its operations in China and Ireland.
The firm has expanded its production capabilities at two of its Protech Performance Plastics businesses to add more capabilities for customers in the computer and food packaging industries.
Donagh Murphy, the firm's director of operations for Ireland and China, said the multi-million dollar investment in Protech represented an exciting phase in the future growth of its businesses.
“OnePlastics Group are driven by becoming a world-class leader in all of the businesses within the portfolio and create revolutionary products in the sectors we operate in," he said in a news release. "Our aim is to provide our clients with the most innovative plastic products possible along with the manufacturing capabilities to service demand.
“We are building the Protech business for future growth and this investment in Cork and Shanghai is a sign of our commitment to the plastics industry.”
The Shanghai facility will double in size to 50,000 square feet. The site caters to engineered plastics for electronics and computers. The improvement also provides high volume assembly and complete supply chain management.
In Cork, Ireland, the company will develop a state-of-the-art food grade manufacturing facility with new machinery and automation tools.
The work will result in the number of people employed by Protech increasing from 100 to 125 over the next two years.
The six businesses that comprise OnePlastics Group include Straight Ltd, MGB Plastics, AAC Plastics and Protech Performance Containers in the UK. Protech Performance Plastics in Ireland and Protech Plastics China in Shanghai complete the portfolio. It has also created a design office in Boston, USA.
OnePlastics Group is owned by One51 plc, based in Dublin. It operates a portfolio of businesses in specialized sectors including environmental services, renewable energy and injection molding.
