China's Bluestar Mould Group said March 2 it's opened an office in the Detroit area to better tap the U.S. market.
Shenzhen, China-based Bluestar last year expanded its mold building capacity with a new 180,000-square-foot production plant at its headquarters. It said at the time it wanted to target the automotive market.
The new U.S. office, in Troy, Mich., will be headed by Chuck Baker, sales director of America. Bluestar said about 30 percent of its customers are in North America, and it said in the announcement it has technical engineers in both the Detroit area and in Mexico for support.
It also said it has a joint venture factory in Turkey, and is seeking a sales director in Germany. The company started in 1992 and has more than 550 employees. It said it had 2014 sales of $70 million.
