United Kingdom-based PET container maker Petainer is opening a location in California to create plastic kegs for wine, beer and water customers.
The move comes as the company has entered a partnership with G3 Enterprises, which provides packaging and supply chain services to the wine and spirits industry.
The new operation allows G3 to offer mobile keg filing services as the wine-on-tap grows in popularity as an alternative to bottled wine, U.K.-based Petainer said.
Petainer's new facility, called a blowing hub by the company, is located in Modesto, Calif., and is serving customers across North America, the company said.
“The Petainer one-way, recyclable keg from Petainer is a real game changer, offering wineries competitive manufacturing and logistics costs while utilizing the same dispensing systems required for conventional steel kegs,” said Mihailo Panovich, vice president of G3 Enterprises, said in a statement.
Called the PetainerKeg, the company said its 30-liter PET containers account for lower carbon emissions and reduced freight costs. They also provide space efficiency when compared with bottles of wine.
G3 becomes the exclusive distributor for Petainer in 13 western states, the company said.
