A March 16 fire shut down thermoformer Reliable Formed Plastics LLC, but owner Rick Turman said that steps are being taken to get the Birmingham, Ala., company up and running as quickly as possible.
“We will get back as fast as we can,” Turman said ing a phone interview.
He said that insurance adjusters and agents were on the scene March 17 and “we're formulating plans right now.”
Turman said that an afternoon fire started in a wood shop near the assembly area and that firefighters were on the scene in a matter of minutes.
He said that the fire damaged about 30 percent of the assembly area, and that the computer numerically controlled trimmers and thermoforming machinery got some smoke damage. The roof is metal and wood, and the wood area collapsed.
“We will know more when the power comes back on,” he added.
Local news reports said that it was a three-alarm fire that was under control within 1½ hours, all employees escaped safely and no injuries were reported.
The company ranked 202nd in Plastics News recent survey of North American thermoformers, with $1.1 million in sales.
