Detroit — Plastics News staff won multiple awards from the Society of Professional Journalists' Detroit chapter's Excellence in Journalism awards and annual ceremony April 12.
Art director Jessica Jordan took second place for feature page design for a story by staff writer Gayle Putrich on the part plastics took in protecting medical workers fighting the Ebola outbreak in Africa last year. Putrich donned a full protective suit during NPE 2015 in Orlando, Fla., at a booth staffed by the Flexible Vinyl Alliance. Photographer Joe Wilssens documented the process.
Senior staff reporter Frank Esposito and Editor Don Loepp won third place for breaking/spot news for their coverage of the Dow Chemical Co. and DuPont Co. announcement of their planned merger.
