Plastics News published its annual ranking of North American recyclers in the May 2 issue, so let's take a peek at the numbers behind the ranking.
In print, we rank the top 25, but online we've got data for 216 companies totaling over 13.5 billion pounds of material moved in 2015, 10 billion of it was reprocessed, that's up 26 percent over 2011. The average amount per company is up 33 percent.
Currently, for year over year, the top 25 are down 2 percent from last year, however, for all the firms reporting more volume, the median growth was 30 percent. That means half of them reprocessed higher than 30 percent more material. Not surprisingly, post-industrial recyclers fared best.
