With all apologies to writer Gertrude Stein, a Rose isn't always a Rose.
Kyle Rose is the name of PolyOne Corp.'s vice president of communications. Rose has been with the compounding and distribution leader in Avon Lake, Ohio — just west of Cleveland — since 2011.
Kyle Rose also is the name of a defensive tackle from West Virginia University who was just signed as a rookie free agent by the Cleveland Browns.
(Browns fans such as myself tend to know these kind of details about rookie free agents. It helps keep us interested in a team that's had 15 losing seasons in the last 17 years.)
As a public service from Plastics News, here are some ways to tell the two Kyle Roses apart :
• Kyle Rose the DT is 6-feet-4 inches tall and weighs 295 pounds. Kyle Rose the VP is neither that tall nor that heavy.
• Kyle Rose the DT had 46 tackles and four sacks last year. Recent stats for Kyle Rose the VP were unavailable.
• Kyle Rose the VP got his undergrad degree from Ohio University in Athens. Kyle Rose the DT grew up about two hours from there in Centerville.
• Kyle Rose the VP has a considerable knowledge of plastic resins and compounds. Kyle Rose the DT probably does not.
The Browns practice in Berea, about 40 minutes away from PolyOne's headquarters in Avon Lake. Browns players also tend to live on the West Side of the Cleveland area. So it's entirely possible the two Kyle Roses could, for example, be eating at the same restaurant at Crocker Park in Westlake at some point in the next few months.
Fans of Kyle Rose the VP shouldn't confuse Kyle Rose the DT's Twitter account with one that will discuss resins. #GOBROWNS!
