Nova Chemicals is doing its part to help victims of wildfires in Fort McMurray, Alberta.
Calgary-based Nova will donate $200,000 to the Canadian Red Cross to help with relief efforts, officials said in a May 5 announcement. The firm also will match employee donations to the Canadian Red Cross of up to $50,000.
“We send our thoughts and prayers to all of the impacted families, friends, co-workers and first responders impacted,” officials said.
More than 80,000 people have been evacuated from the Fort McMurray area as a result of wildfires that now cover 210,000 acres. Approximately 49 fires in the region remained active early May 6. More than 1,100 firefighters are battling the wildfires.
Fort McMurray is about 300 miles north of Nova's major plastics and petrochemicals site in Joffre.
