Southbridge, Mass. — Hyde Industrial Blade Solutions, a division of Hyde Tools Inc., has acquired two makers of industrial knives and blades for the shredding and grinding of plastics — D&S Manufacturing and PDK Design & Grinding, both of Auburn, Mass.
“D&S and PDK's operations will benefit Hyde customers with expanded manufacturing capabilities and products specifically for the plastics, tire and recycling industries,” said Hyde Group President Rob Scoble. “Conversely, their existing customers will have access to Hyde's engineering, research and development capabilities, sales force and our already extensive line of bladed and knives for these markets.”
Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Auburn is about 15 minutes from Southbridge. A company official from Hyde did not return a call for this story.
In the May 2 announcement, the Hyde news release said: “there will be no immediate or outwardly apparent changes for D&S and PDK customers. Sales, service support, ordering and engineering contacts will remain the same at both companies.”
Hyde Industrial Blade Solutions recently celebrated its 140th year in business. It makes knives and blades for a wide range of markets, including food processing, hose and tube, tire and rubber, package converting, paper and packaging, abrasives, plus general industrial applications. Hyde Tools claims to be the largest manufacturer in North America of industrial machine and hand knives and tools for the remodeling, restoration, building trades and do-it-yourselfers.
D&S Manufacturing specializes in making knives from high-chrome alloy tool steel, for granulators, shredders and recycling equipment, and is more than 70 years old.
PDK Design and Grinding, which is more than 85 years old, has manufactured tungsten-carbide rotor knives and bed knives for pelletizing plastic.
Both firms offer grinding services for re-sharpening of knives and blades.
