Ampacet Corp. is helping product designers get in touch with their inner dinosaur with ReptyleFx.
That's the name of a new line of colors, special effects and functional additives available from Tarrytown, N.Y.-based Ampacet, which ranks as one of the world's largest producers of color and additive masterbatch concentrates.
The technology creates unique, customizable colors and surface textures in flexible plastic film, officials said in a news release, offering designers the opportunity “to create edgy new products replicating snakeskin's tactile and visual appeal.”
ReptyleFx materials are being targeted at applications such as stand-up food pouches, merchandise bags and mailers, personal care packaging, textile alternatives and interior car trim. Use of a special effect additive can give multidimensional color effects to both rough and smooth textures in a minimum two-layer film structure, officials said.
Additional applications can range from consumer tapes and labels, camouflage MRE packaging for the military, to countertops, cloth fabric alternatives, rain gear and other plastic clothing and car interior trim.
Ampacet employs more than 2,000 worldwide and operates 24 production plants.
