Horsham, England -based injection molder Pentagon Plastics Ltd. has purchased a neighboring tooling firm that specializes in caps and closures.
The target firm is Phoenix Engineering 2009. Terms were not disclosed.
The most recent incarnation of Phoenix was established in 2009 after a management buyout by a group of dedicated toolmakers.
The firm has annual sales of about £1 million.
Pentagon has periodically sub-contracted grinding and wire eroding work to Phoenix and provided computer-controlled cutting services to them in return.
Pentagon managing director Paul Edwards, said: “Phoenix utilizes a wide range of equipment that will be of benefit to Pentagon's tool making activities opening doors of opportunity going forward. This, coupled with the proximity of Phoenix to Pentagon, made for a very attractive opportunity.”
In June, Pentagon made a £95,000 machine investment. The new Mars MAII 900/300 Universal – a 90 tonne hybrid moulding machine – and the Zeres ZE1200/430, took Pentagon's on-site machine count to 10.
