Jomar Corp., which makes injection blow molding machines in Egg Harbor Township, N.J., has launched the IntelliDrive series that incorporates a custom-designed, servo-driven hydraulic system. Jomar said the new machine delivers big improvements in energy efficiency, output and performance.
Jomar will introduce the new IBM technology at K 2016, Oct. 19-26 in Düsseldorf, Germany (Hall 14, Stand A32).
Intellidrive's servo-hydraulics reduce energy consumption by 40-50 percent. The machine boasts a dry cycle time of 1.8 seconds, which the company says is significantly faster than standard hydraulic IB
Jomar engineers worked with Bosch Rexroth to develop a proprietary use of servo-driven hydraulic technology to power the blow molding machine and the plastifier.
Along with lower energy and utility costs, IntelliDrive presses feature a reinforced main platen, which reduces the possibility of deflection. A closed-loop clamping system delivers precise control over the clamp's speed and position — for faster speeds for opening and closing while simultaneously reducing impact on the tooling and prolonging the lifespan of molds.
“Over the last couple of years, we've had numerous inquiries about our intentions in developing an all-electric machine,” said Jomar President Carlos Castro. “The IntelliDrive series is a preferable alternative for Jomar because we've achieved energy savings comparable to all-electric machines while also maintaining our robust and versatile hydraulic system.”
Other features of the new machine include a quick-change mounting system for the preform cylinder that reduces the time needed for cylinder maintenance, a digital displacement cylinder for better clamp control and speed, and a variable-frequency drive for a secondary motor.
The IntelliDrive injection blow molder has exactly the same footprint as its standard hydraulic counterpart.
Jomar officials said the company has sold more than 2,000 injection blow molders around the world. The IBM process is used to mold containers for a wide range of industries, such as pharmaceutical, health care, personal care, beauty, food, beverage and household products.
