Plastic Man and other superheroes are heading to the Plastic City of Leominster, Mass.
The first-ever Plastic City Comic Con will be held July 30 at the Leominster Veterans Memorial Center. Cosplayers — fans who dress as their favorite comics or pop culture characters — are welcome, organizers said on the event's web site. The event will also feature comics creators including Paul Kupperberg (DC Comics, Archie Comics) and Joe Caramagna (Marvel Comics).
Plastic City Comic Con is being hosted by independent comics publisher Reckless Sidekick Productions. Admission is free for the event, which runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Leominster is a historical center of U.S. plastics processing and remains home to several processors.
Reckless Sidekick official Keith Gleason said that he and his wife came up with the name for the event.
"Leominster is known as the Plastic City, so it just made sense to call our convention that," Gleason said in an email. "It conjures up images of toys and action figures."
