St. Petersburg, Fla. — Plastics News won two national gold awards for excellence in business-to-business journalism from the American Society of Business Publication Editors (ASBPE).
The weekly Plastics News Now (PNN) won the top award for webcast series, and the NPE 2015 show dailies won the top prize for on-site trade show coverage.
For PNN, this marks back-to-back gold awards — the newscast also won a gold Azbee in 2015. This year's award goes to Jeremy Carroll, assistant managing editor and video editor; Kerri Jansen, staff reporter and host of PNN; Rhoda Miel, news editor; and Steve Toloken, news editor-international.
The winning PNN entry included excerpts from a video that Toloken did on-site in India, interviewing recyclers about the impact they were feeling from low virgin resin prices.
“The PNN team creates an interesting and entertaining webcast every week, and I'm pleased that the ASBPE judges recognized their excellent work for the second year in a row,” said PN Editor Don Loepp.
Show daily excellence
ASBPE's on-site trade show category recognize excellence in trade show daily newspapers. It's a category that Plastics News has dominated.
Last year PN's Fakuma dailies, from Friedrichshafen, Germany, won a silver award. PN also has won gold, silver, silver and bronze awards, respectively, for its NPE show dailies in 2000, 2006, 2009 and 2012, respectively, as well as a silver national Azbee for its 2001 Plastics USA show dailies.
“Show dailies are such a huge undertaking, everyone on our staff puts in long hours and we all work very hard on tight deadlines to create really outstanding issues that are packed with fresh news and photos,” Loepp said. The show daily teams also include staffers from PRW and Plastics News Europe, and several long-time freelancers.
“I'm very proud of our effort. Plastics News clearly puts out the best show dailies in business journalism,” Loepp said.
