A. Schulman Inc. has continued its leadership shake-ups and named a new chief operating officer: Gary A. Miller, who is being promoted from his previous role as vice president, global supply chain and chief procurement officer, effective immediately, according to a news release.
On Aug. 18, Fairlawn, Ohio-based Schulman announced that Bernard Rzepka was out as president and CEO and that former president and CEO, Joseph M. Gingo, was back in that role. He is also the company's chairman. The plastic compounds and resins supplier also named a new chief legal officer last week, replacing an individual who is retiring soon.
The company cut its earnings forecast, citing “deteriorating market conditions” in its release, earlier this month.
Miller is not replacing anyone in the COO role. Jennifer K. Beeman, vice president of corporate communications and investor relations, in an email said that Rzepka had been COO before taking on the role of CEO in 2015, and the company had not filled that role.
Miller, 69, has served as Schulman's vice president, global supply chain and chief procurement officer since 2008, the release stated. He is a 42-year veteran of Akron, Ohio-based Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co.
“Gary is a consummate professional with a proven track record of driving increased operational quality and cost structure improvements,” Gingo said in the release. “He will play a critical role in restoring A. Schulman's operational and financial performance worldwide.”
The release also stated that Frank Roederer, 47, would become senior vice president and general manager of the company's United States and Canada business. This role would be in addition to his responsibilities for the company's engineered composites business, where he is senior vice president.
