With a little help from the Society of the Plastics Industry Inc. and either other plastics trade associations that put together the Plastics Industry Fly-In event in Washington D.C., plastics professionals got to hear what members of Congress say they are doing for the industry.
Fly-in first timer Sheila Wright, of Paragon Manufacturing Inc., was joined on the Hill by the next generation of family-owned Paragon, her daughter, Julie Wright.
“I brought the third generation because I want her to see that there's a lot of work to be done to protect the company to take it to the fourth generation,” she said.
Michael Smith, president and CEO of LK Systems, Inc., said this year's Plastics Industry Fly-in wasn't his first time in Washington, but it was his first time taking on plastics industry advocacy in a long while.
"I felt with the current state of the political climate, the cognitive dissonance within the legislative body, and the parties floating without foundation, it would probably be a good opportunity to become involved and create positive change where I have that opportunity."
