Japanese resin manufacturer Toray Industries is doing research into suction blow molding using a KBS20 extrusion blow molding machine from Kautex Maschinenbau GmbH.
Toray is testing heat-resistant air ducts molded from polyphenylene sulfide (PPS), at its technical center in Nagoya, Japan. PPS can meet the demand of smaller car engines that use turbochargers—generating high temperatures.
“The latest developments in combustion engines are once again creating challenges for automotive industry suppliers. This is especially true for the interplay between materials and engine technology,” said Jürgen Moitzheim, Kautex sales director. “For this reason, we like to work very closely with our customers on the development of new solutions.”
Kautex is based in Bonn, Germany. Its U.S. operation, Kautex Machines Inc., is in North Branch, N.J.
