Düsseldorf, Germany — How does an altbier sound about now? The K 2016 trade show is just weeks away, so if you have an appetite for Düsseldorf's favorite brew — or a shot of Killepitsch, or a plate of Rheinischer Sauerbraten — it's not too late to plan your trip.
Something in the neighborhood of 210,000 people will come to Germany for the massive plastics and rubber trade fair, scheduled for Oct. 19-26 at Messe Düsseldorf. They'll be visiting some 3,100 exhibitors from almost 60 nations.
“Nowhere in the world can one experience the full breadth of raw materials, processing and application equipment as completely as at K in Düsseldorf. This is the premier platform for the global plastics and rubber industry, and each company aims to present itself here with forward-looking innovations,” said Werner M. Dornscheidt, president and CEO of Messe Düsseldorf.
Most visitors will spend some time away from the fairgrounds, at the city's museums, taverns, stores and restaurants. Popular destinations include the Königsallee for high-end shopping, and the Altstadt (old town), for nightlife.
The former village (Dorf) on the river Düssel is today the capital of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany's most populous and economically strongest state, and almost 5 million people live within its immediate area.
