The Play Fore Playmakers golf tournament has a new plastics industry sponsor, but is still raising money for a good cause.
James Monroe Wire & Cable Corp. sponsored this year's event July 18 at Sterling National Country Club in Sterling, Mass. The event raised $33,800 for the Life is Good Kids Foundation, a child-focused charity based in Boston. James Monroe — of Lancaster, Mass. — is a supplier of plastic-coated wire and cable.
Materials firm S&E Specialty Polymers of Lunenburg, Mass., previously had been the main sponsor of the event, which was held for the fourth time. At this year's event, three winning bidders got to play a round of golf with former Boston Red Sox star Luis Tiant.
James Monroe President David Fisher — along with tournament directors Jay and Penny Munsey — presented the check to Life is Good Kids on Aug. 11.
“It's an honor that in our first year of sponsoring the tournament that it generated the biggest return for The Life is Good Kids Foundation to date,” Fisher said in a news release. “We all at James Monroe look forward to sponsoring and supporting the efforts of the Life is Good Kids Foundation next year.”
The 5th annual event is scheduled for July 24, 2017 at Sterling National.
