Custom preform and container maker DevTech PET Inc. is spending more than $18 million to establish a new location in Pennsylvania that will create 32 new jobs.
The company, a subsidiary of Envases Universales Group, based in Mexico, will lease a 120,000-square-foot location in Hanover Township and near Allentown in the Lehigh Valley.
DevTech's investment in the new site will include infrastructure upgrades and new equipment, according to Gov. Tom Wolf's office.
DevTech makes custom plastic preforms and containers and currently has 95 full-time employees. The company also currently has a location in Pennsauken, N.J., that Wolf indirectly referenced in making the announcement.
“Operational cost savings made Pennsylvania the preferred location for DevTech's new facility,” he said in a statement. “The company could have remained in the neighboring state where it is currently established and that is in closer proximity to its customer base, but Pennsylvania's advantages rose above the competition.”
The company, while opening a Pennsylvania site, is maintaining operations in New Jersey.
“They are complementary. We will do the plastic injection of the preform in Pennsylvania and will blow the bottle at the customer site in New Jersey,” explained Paul Smith, chief financial officer of DevTech's holding company, in an email interview.
“We have a client in New Jersey and given logistic cost it is more efficient to supply from the new operation in Pennsylvania,” he continued.
Smith added that another DevTech operation in Amherst, N.H., “will continue to serve its base of clients and to develop innovative packaging solutions.”
DevTech is receiving a $150,000 grant, $96,000 in job creation tax credits and $21,600 for employee training in Pennsylvania, the state reported.
“We are looking forward to the successful expansion of our manufacturing facilities in Pennsylvania, and very grateful for the support, guidance, and incentives to materialize this project,” said Antonio Donnadieu, CEO of the PET Division at Envases Universales.
