China imported 126.9 billion yuan of plastic resins in the first six months of 2016, 10.2 percent lower than the same period of the previous year.
Measured by weight, imports declined 6.3 percent year over year to 12.3 million metric tons, according to the latest data from China's National Bureau of Statistics.
During the same time period, China's domestic resin output increased by 7.7 percent to 39.8 million metric tons.
China also saw its export of processed plastic products rise 5.7 percent by weight to 4.97 million metric tons, or 4.5 percent by sales, during the first half.
Overall, the plastic processing industry grew its output by 5.8 percent to 36.9 million metric tons in the first six months.
