Want proof that good things happened at K 2016? Look no further than the experience of Robert Bauman, president of the Polymer Consulting International consulting firm.
Bauman was pickpocketed on a local train while on his way to the show in Düsseldorf, Germany, on Oct. 20. Bauman lost his U.S. passport and some cash, but he hadn't even realized what had happened when he received a mysterious phone call from Ireland.
“I answered the phone and this woman says ‘Is this Robert Bauman? My husband has your passport,' he said. “I had no idea what she was talking about.”
Bauman's passport had been found at a nearby train station in Düsseldorf by Sean Cronin, molding maintenance team leader for Irish plastics processor Molex Ireland. Cronin also was attending K 2016, and after he found the passport, he called his wife and asked her to look up Bauman's name on Google. That search yielded a phone number, and she called Bauman and gave him her husband's number.
Bauman contacted Sean Cronin and the two met at K 2016 the next day, when a very relieved Bauman got his passport back. “I wasn't so worried about losing the cash, but losing your passport is a big deal,” he said. “The police were amazed when I told them the story.”
It's a K 2016 miracle!
