Düsseldorf, Germany — KraussMaffei Berstorff is partnering with Erema Engineering Recycling Maschinen und Anlagen GmbH, as Erema will supply recycling systems for Berstorff's re-compounding technology.
Both companies announced the news Oct. 20 at K 2016, where both exhibited.
KraussMaffei Berstorff calls its technology EdelweissCompounding. The maker of compounding extruders introduced Edelweiss at the 2013 K show.
The first extruder melts the reclaimed material, which is then compounded in a second extruder. The compounded plastic only goes through a single heat, which saves energy, minimizes shear stress and gives better-quality material, KraussMaffei Berstorff said.
The extruder maker selected Erema's Intarema technology for its recycling/compounding systems.
“The perfect portfolio combination of both partners clearly demonstrates that integrated recycling and compounding — or rather, recompounding — has become a key element of our strategic orientation,” said Peter Roos, president of the extrusion technology segment of the KraussMaffei Group.
