Düsseldorf, Germany — Officials with materials firm Techmer PM provided a few more details about its planned Mexican location at K 2016.
The plant will operate at least three extrusion lines for compounds and concentrates and will cover at least 40,000 square feet, president Ryan Howley said at K 2016. Clinton, Tenn.-based Techmer will make its final decision on the location of the Mexican plant by January.
The plant is expected to sell materials into automotive, aerospace and other markets. It's set to open in the second half of 2017.
“There are a lot of high-value applications in Mexico that are made for U.S. consumption,” Howley said. “If you're not participating in Mexico, it's hard to fully participate in the U.S.”
He added that many plastic firms are locating in Mexico to offer their customers a local supply source. Techmer previously had exported materials to its customers there.
Also at K 2016, Techmer was focusing on Techmer Vision, a color and material selection tool for the design community. The system can help customers make selections of Techmer materials in packaging, hygiene, electronics and other markets.
Techmer ranks as one of North America's 30 largest compounders and concentrate makers. The firm has annual sales of more than $200 million.
