Huntsman Corp. inaugurated its Shanghai campus in the Minhang Economic & Technological Development Zone on Nov. 16.
The 40,000-square-meter campus comprises an Asia Pacific Technology Center, administrative offices, and a downstream formulations facility for Huntsman's polyurethanes business that first opened in 1996.
The campus brings together all of Huntsman's Shanghai employees in one location, with the objective of boosting collaboration and synergies and enhancing innovation performance and service to customers.
200 employees have been transitioned from Huntsman's Hongqiao offices to the new campus. The Minhang site now houses 500 employees and 100 contractors in all business functions.
Huntsman President and CEO Peter Huntsman and Asia Pacific CEO Tony Hankins hosted the inauguration ceremony.
Speaking at the ceremony, Huntsman said: “The greatest output of this site will be the production of human creativity and interaction. This site is an investment in the future. It is through our collective efforts that we will be able to build upon the successes of the past generation and provide hope and opportunity to future generations.”
Huntsman employs 1,400 people in China and generates annual sales of more than $1 billion – more than 10 percent of the company's total global sales. China is Huntsman's second largest national market after the United States.
