Custom molder Empire Precision Plastics of Rochester, N.Y., has purchased the assets of nearby Advanced Mold & Tooling Inc.
Empire acquired wire EDM and high-speed computer numerically controlled milling equipment for its in-house tooling department, along with several molding machines, from the former Advanced. Prior to the acquisition, Empire operated around 35 to 40 injection presses.
The company also added several Advanced staff members to its staff of about 100.
Empire produces molded opaque and optic components for the medical device, consumer, industrial and firearms industries. The increased tooling capacity will enable the company to look at tooling-only customers in addition to customers for which it handles production and tooling, said Keith Bradt, Empire's business development manager. The company has its eye on Tier 1 automotive suppliers as potential tooling customers.
EPP Team Inc., which does business as Empire Precision Plastics, had injection molding sales of $12.1 million in 2014, according to Plastics News data.
