New details are emerging regarding Custom Profile Inc.'s expansion in Grand Rapids, Mich., a project that will add 54 jobs.
Custom Profile, in October, purchased the plastics profile extrusion business of Bemis Manufacturing Co. of Sheboygan, Wis., and revealed plans to move that business to Michigan.
West Michigan economic development firm The Right Place Inc. said Dec. 21 the company will invest $2.28 million in its new Grand Rapids plant and add 54 new jobs. The expansion, near Custom Profile's headquarters in Walker, Mich., will take place over the next three years, the group said.
The company is receiving a $216,000 performance-based grant from the Michigan Economic Development Corp., The Right Place said.
“With all the operational complexities involved with an acquisition like this, it is extremely helpful to have an organization like The Right Place supporting us locally and ensuring we were able to move these jobs here to Walker,” said Custom Profile CFO Jim Gorant in a statement.
Custom Profile extrudes plastic parts for the appliance, automotive, energy, office furniture, point-of-purchase and marine industries. The company is owned by Blackford Capital, a private equity firm based in Grand Rapids.
Custom Profile has said it expected sales to increase by about 25 percent through the deal, which will help the company move into new business categories including medical.
