IFCO says more than 11 million of the company's wood grain reusable plastic containers are now on the market, less than a year after their introduction.
More than 300 growers have placed orders for the reusable plastic containers to supply Walmart with fresh produce.
The shipping containers are designed to mimic wood shipping crates and be used to display produce in stores.
“Walmart chooses to use Wood Grain RPCs to deliver produce for a variety of reasons,” said Shawn Baldwin, senior vice president of produce, floral, global food sourcing at Walmart USA, in a statement. “They have better ventilation, they're ergonomically designed and very easy to use. And, our customers really like the new Wood Grain RPCs because they look more like a farmers market or roadside fruit stand which provides a level of comfort during the shopping experience.”
The company introduced the wood grain plastic containers in January.
IFCO, which provides reusable packaging in more than 50 countries, is a unit of Brambles Ltd.
