Düsseldorf, Germany — Turkish coloring and additive masterbatch supplier Aksoy Plastik Sanayi ve Ticaret A.S. is building a new facility in Istanbul to significantly expand capacity and better target export markets.
The Istanbul-based company will open the new facility, which will double its space to 5,000 square meters, by early 2017, and add two manufacturing lines to its existing capacity of seven lines, said President and CEO Selcuk Aksoy.
“We see a lot of additional opportunities in the export markets,” Aksoy said. The new factory has space for an additional three lines for future growth, beyond the two that are being added in the current expansion.
The company's main export markets are Eastern and Central Europe, the Middle East and North Africa.
It has increased its exports from 25 percent of sales three years ago to 40 to 50 percent of its sales, he said.
At K 2016 in Düsseldorf, the company was showing a range of what it called functional polymers, additives designed to work as coupling agents between materials of different polarities, such as when plastic is mixed with wood or minerals, or when some different kinds of plastics are combined.
The company commercialized the materials earlier this year, after spending about three years developing them, Aksoy said.
“We are a new player in this area, but we definitely want to grow,” he said. “We are constantly developing our products and introducing new ranges and growing by entering new markets.”
He said Aksoy specializes in additives for multilayer and barrier films, agricultural films and UV-stabilized films.
“We are always trying to be more specialized and get out of commodities as much as possible,” he said. The company has 70 employees.
