Evonik Industries AG of Essen, Germany, showed the Dynavis technology at K 2016 — which custom tailors hydraulic fluid for hydraulically operated injection molding machines.
Compared with conventional fluids, those formulated with Dynavis can lower the energy consumption of some injection molding presses by more than 10 percent, the company said.
The technology improves the flow characteristics of hydraulic fluids by widening the temperature range and efficiency of hydraulic units. Oils formulated with Dynavis have optimized viscosity—at low temperatures, they flow better, while at higher temperatures they remain more viscous.
When used in an injection molding machine, the press not only uses less drive energy, the fluids also do not get as hot and effectively withstand the shearing forces.
Dynavis has already been demonstrated in case studies used in hydraulic excavators and other construction equipment. For the plastics machinery area, Evonik has tested with Boy and Engel brand injection presses.
