GN Thermoforming Equipment of Chester, Nova Scotia, for the first time exhibited its GN800, a high-speed form/cut/stack thermoformer, at K 2016.
GN announced that two units have been sold to customers in Europe, with another sale expected.
The launch of the GN800 marks the company's entry into the form/cut/stack market, and expands its plug-assist machinery offering.
GN Thermoforming Equipment developed the new machine in partnership with Agripak srl in Milan, Italy, which manufactured form/cut/stack machinery until 2003. A market study by GN confirmed the technology is growing by packaging makers, and the company concluded a partnership offered the fastest way to enter the market.
“We saw the changes in the marketplace, so we wanted to move swiftly to counter the competition,” said Jerome Romkey, GN's business development manager.
The GN800 has a forming area of 31.5 inches by 22.4 inches, and a cutting force of 75 tons. The standard oven is four times the index length.
The machine handles sheet widths up to 34.6 inches.
GN currently is targeting food, medical and industrial packaging markets.
